The job
This customer in Ayr has an outdoor bar and kitchen set up beside their swimming pool, and wanted new decking installed underneath it. The new deck forms a raised platform that the bar, stools and outdoor kitchen sit on, with a step down to the existing pool surround and the block paving alongside.
Fitting it in
The platform had to be built around what was already there — the bar's upright posts, the outdoor kitchen units and the pool edging — with the boards cut neatly round each post and the edge finished so it reads as a clean step rather than an open frame. The grooved boards are laid with the grooves running away from the bar, and the front edge is faced with decking boards to match the surface.
Result
A level, solid platform under the bar that ties the bar area into the rest of the poolside, ready for the next sunny day.

Common questions
Do you install decking?
Yes. Garden decking, raised platforms, steps and repairs to existing decks are all part of our external joinery work across Ayrshire.
Can decking be built around existing features?
Yes. On this job the deck was built around the bar posts, the outdoor kitchen and the pool edging. Boards are cut to fit round posts and fixed points so the finished surface looks planned rather than patched.
Can you match new decking to an existing deck?
New timber will always be lighter than boards that have weathered for a few seasons, as you can see in the photos here. It greys down over time, or the whole area can be treated or stained to bring it together sooner.
