We fit traditional wall panelling across Ayrshire — panel mouldings, dado rails and full stair panelling. The difference between panelling that looks built-in and panelling that looks stuck on is the setting out: equal panels, centred on the wall, worked around radiators, sockets and reveals so nothing breaks the line.
Setting out is the whole job
Panelling is almost entirely planning. The panels have to be equal, centred, and sized so they still look right where a window or a radiator interrupts the wall — and on a staircase everything runs at the pitch of the stairs rather than level, with the angle changing again where the flight meets the landing. All of that is worked out and marked before anything is cut, because once the first length goes on the wall the layout is decided.
What to expect
Room measured and the scheme set out on the wall first
Panel sizes agreed before anything is cut
Mouldings fixed, mitres closed, joints filled
Scribed around whatever the room throws at it
Left sanded and ready for the decorator
Wall Panelling — common questions
How much does wall panelling cost?
It depends on the room, the style and how much has to be worked around. A straight wall is quick; a stairwell with a raked pitch takes longer. Every job is priced after seeing it.
Can panelling be run up a staircase?
Yes — and it is the part that catches DIYers out, because every cut runs at the pitch of the stairs rather than level, and the angle changes where the flight meets the landing. It is the most common panelling job we are asked to rescue.
Does panelling suit a modern house?
Very much so — it is one of the most cost-effective ways to give a plain room depth and character, and the panel proportions are adjusted to suit the ceiling height so it looks like it belongs.
