A replacement integrated fridge fitted into an existing kitchen run in Irvine, North Ayrshire. The old unit came out, the housing was checked and made good, and the new appliance went in with the cabinet door refitted to line up with the rest of the kitchen.

Not as simple as a swap
Integrated appliances look like a straight exchange and rarely are. Housings were built around the old unit, so the new one has to actually fit the aperture that exists. Once the old fridge is out you also see what has been hidden behind it for years — in this case damage to the back of the housing that needed sorting before anything new went in.
Fitting and lining up
The appliance is set level and secured in the housing, then the cabinet door is fitted back onto it and adjusted so it lines up with the doors either side. That last part is the bit people notice: a fridge door sitting proud or out of line by a few millimetres stands out in a run of otherwise level kitchen doors.

Will a new integrated fridge fit my existing housing?
Usually, but it is worth checking the aperture before ordering — integrated appliance sizes are fairly standard but housings are not always built to them, particularly in older kitchens.
Do I need a joiner or an appliance fitter?
For an integrated appliance, a joiner. The work is in the housing and the cabinet door — getting the unit sat level and the door lined up with the rest of the kitchen.
Can you replace single kitchen units without redoing the kitchen?
Yes. Individual units, doors, worktops, appliance housings and repairs are all worth doing on their own — a kitchen that is otherwise fine does not need replacing because one part of it has failed.
