Project overview
Four premium white doors were fitted through this Irvine home, one of them a pair of double doors to a wider opening. Every door has a full-height glazed panel, and chrome ironmongery was fitted throughout so the doors read as one set from room to room.
Glazed for natural light
The glazing was the point of the job rather than a decorative afterthought. Inner halls and landings often have no window of their own, so they rely entirely on light borrowed from the rooms around them. A solid door closes that light off completely. A glazed panel lets it through while the door still does its job, and the difference in a hallway that previously had none is immediate.
The double doors
A pair of doors into a wider opening is a different job from hanging four singles. The two leaves have to line up with each other as well as with the frame — matching heights, an even joint down the middle where they meet, and handles set level across both. Any discrepancy between the two shows up instantly because the eye reads them as a single unit.
