Project overview
Six internal doors were replaced across the house, covering the bedrooms, the bathroom and the hallway running through to the kitchen. Doing a whole house in one go has an advantage over replacing doors one at a time: every door matches, every handle sits at the same height, and the house reads as one scheme rather than a series of separate decisions made years apart.
Why prefinished doors
These are prefinished doors, which means they arrive already painted to a factory standard rather than being primed and painted on site. The finish is harder wearing and more even than a brush finish, and it removes the dust, smell and drying time that comes with painting six doors in an occupied house. The doors are fitted, the handles go on, and the room is ready to use the same day.
Cottage style and chrome ironmongery
The cottage style door — vertical boards within a framed panel — is a good fit for a modern Ayrshire home. It carries more detail and shadow than a flat door without looking fussy.
