Four Oak Veneered Doors Fitted in Lugton
Four oak veneered internal doors supplied and hung in a home in Lugton, East Ayrshire. The existing frames were kept in place, so every door was fitted to the shape of its own opening and finished with antique brass ironmongery.

Project overview
The brief was to replace four internal doors with oak veneered doors while keeping the existing frames. Reusing frames avoids the disruption and making-good that comes with replacing them, but it does mean each door has to be worked to the opening it is going into rather than simply hung out of the packaging.
Fitting to the shape of each opening
Openings in an established home are rarely perfectly square. Frames settle, floors move, and no two openings end up quite the same. Each of the four doors was therefore measured, cut and planed to the shape of its own opening, so the gap around the edge stays even from top to bottom and the door closes cleanly against the stop. This is the part of door hanging that takes the time, and it is the difference between a door that looks fitted and one that looks posted into the hole.
Antique brass ironmongery
Antique brass ironmongery was fitted throughout, which suits the warmth of oak far better than a bright chrome finish. Consistency matters as much as the fixing itself — handles set at a matching height across all four doors, and hardware aligned so the doors read as a set rather than four separate jobs.

Common questions
Can new internal doors be fitted into existing frames?
Yes. Keeping the existing frames is often the tidier option — there is no plaster damage, no new facings needed and far less making good. The door itself has to be worked to suit the opening, which is a joinery job rather than a straight swap.
Why do internal doors need trimming to fit?
Openings in most homes are not perfectly square, particularly in older properties where frames have settled. Trimming and planing the door to the opening is what keeps the gap even the whole way round and stops the door catching or sitting proud.
Do you supply the doors and ironmongery?
Either way works. Doors and ironmongery can be included in the quote, or you can supply your own — we will just confirm they are suitable for the openings before starting.
