Finishing the house
This was the second stage of a whole-house door replacement in Lugton. The upstairs doors had already been fitted on an earlier visit, so the brief this time was simple: hang the downstairs doors to match, so every door in the house is the same from top to bottom.
Oak veneer cottage doors
The doors are oak veneer in a cottage style — vertical boards beneath a plain top rail — the same design as upstairs. Each one was hung and worked to its own opening so the gaps stay even and the door closes cleanly against the stop, through to the living room, the kitchen, the hall and the bathroom.
Antique brass ironmongery
Antique brass hinges, lever handles and a bathroom privacy lock were fitted throughout, matching the ironmongery on the upstairs doors. The warmth of the oak and the antique brass suit the character of the house, and with every door now matching, the whole home feels finished rather than done in stages.

Common questions
Can you fit doors in stages, upstairs first and downstairs later?
Yes. Plenty of customers split a whole-house job to spread the cost. Keeping a note of the door design and ironmongery means the second stage matches the first exactly.
Do oak veneer doors need finishing?
Unfinished oak veneer doors should be oiled or lacquered to protect them. Prefinished doors come with a factory finish already applied. We can advise on either when quoting.
Can you fit a lock to a bathroom door?
Yes. A privacy lock or bathroom thumbturn can be fitted when the door is hung, matched to the rest of the ironmongery.
