Project overview
This was joinery within a wider renovation. The room was stripped back to bare walls, and the doors, sill and finishings all went in before any decoration started. Four cottage style doors were hung off the one space, along with a new window sill and the facings around it.
Working as part of a renovation
Coming in at the right point in a renovation matters. Joinery has to go in after the walls are sorted but before the decorating, and getting that order wrong means either damaged paintwork or facings fitted to walls that then move. Doing doors, sill and finishings in one visit also means everything matches — same profile, same margins, handles at the same height across all four doors.
The window sill and finishings
The new sill was fitted with the facings run around the opening to tie the window into the wall. On a room being taken back to bare plaster this is the detail that turns a building site back into a room — until the sill and facings are in, an opening reads as a hole rather than a window.
